Whales in sight!
Young whale researchers join Silke Wiegand on a journey of discovery and a “whale-watching tour” at the Museum of Nature and Environment. We’ll travel back over 11 million years in the geological history of northern Germany. Back then, a primeval sea stretched across this region, teeming with sharks, sea turtles, and whales. Original fossilized whale skeletons from this era can be admired at the museum. There are also whales in today’s Baltic Sea—the small porpoises. It’s amazing that other species, including some very large ones, also venture as far as Lübeck Bay. Finally, we’ll head together to the museum’s enormous, genuine sperm whale skeleton.
