Creative Coding and Music for Children
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use the Orca programming language to create music live on a computer, crafting melodies, sounds, and exciting soundscapes.
In this workshop, you’ll discover how music and programming go hand in hand. You don’t need any prior knowledge—just curiosity and a desire to try something new!
We’ll be working with Orca, a special programming language for music. Instead of writing boring text code, you’ll create a pattern of characters on the screen. These characters look like little symbols—and they make music! The cool thing is: the code moves and changes while the music plays.
With Orca, you can:
- create your own sounds and rhythms
- modify melodies step by step
- develop musical patterns
- design sounds with digital synthesizers
You’ll learn how to specify which note is played when, and how small ideas can grow into entire musical landscapes. We’ll also explore how to use effects to alter sounds and make them more exciting.
This is all about experimenting, trying things out, and having fun discovering—mistakes are allowed and are often even the start of something really cool! 🎵💻
We have 9 Mac OS laptops available. You’re also welcome to bring your own computer. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to use one of our computers.
