Why did knights in the Middle Ages display colorful images on their shields?
On houses or signet rings: coats of arms were everywhere. People used them to show where they belonged.
Your city archives will show you real coats of arms and tell you about the many different images on them. We’ll look for coats of arms in the cathedral and then come up with and draw our own family coat of arms.
